Have you ever wished a trail ride wouldn’t end? Then, you may want to consider long riding; which is simply long distance travel on horseback. It’s not competitive, it’s not timed, and there are no limits. It’s just an adventure.
My guest today is long rider, Samantha Szesciorka. She has completed two journeys across Nevada and she’s about to embark on her third. On her first long ride in 2013, Sam rode 500 miles across Nevada from Baker in the east to Reno in the west.
She learned a great deal about herself and her horse along the way. She loved the journey so much that she decided to do it again. So in 2016 she again set off with her mustang and dog. The group made an 1,100 mile loop around northern Nevada.
The trail is calling to her once again. She’s currently preparing for her third long ride. In the following interview, we discuss logistics, planning, safety, and much more about life on trail. Her adventure begins on May 1, 2021 when the team leaves Las Vegas and heads for Carson City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burro Act.
Sam will be posting updates from the trail. Follow her adventure at Nevada Discovery Ride and on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok. Learn more about Long Riding from The Long Riders’ Guild.
